Network Box August 2010 Report on Microsoft Patch Tuesday

Network Box Security Response has released its August 2010 Report on Microsoft Patch Tuesday.
This month, Microsoft releases 14 security bulletins covering 34 vulnerabilities. Eight of these bulletins have a critical severity rating, and we consider four of those to be high-priority deployments.
- MS10-052 affects MPEG layer 3 codecs during media playback
- MS10-055 affects the Cinepak codec used during .avi media playback
- MS10-056 affects Microsoft Office Word documents
- MS10-060 affects the Microsoft .NET framework and Microsoft Silverlight

CVE-2010-1885 Vulnerability in Microsoft HCP protocol

There has been a public disclosure of a vulnerability in Microsoft's HCP protocol, as used by versions of Microsoft Windows 2003 and XP. This vulnerability is critical, remotely exploitable, and can lead to remote code execution.
Version 3.2 of the Network Box iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad App

Version 3.2 of the Network Box iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad App is now ready and live on the Apple iTunes App stores. This version is a “universal App” - meaning that one binary supports all the current Apple hardware (iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad) at native resolutions.
As well as support for the 1024x768 resolution of the iPad, the new version also adds support for the larger keyboard (as well as external/bluetooth keyboards).
In The Boxing Ring - May 2010

The May 2010 edition of "In The Boxing Ring" has been released. In this edition, we’ll be continuing our look at Network Vulnerability Scanning, as well as the problem of classification of Spam vs Malware. We’ll also be presenting the new version of our App for the Apple iPad.
On page 2, we spend some time presenting a new service offering by Network Box. In the summer of 2010, we will be launching an optional service providing three types of Network Scanning, offered both externally and internally. We are very excited at the opportunities that this new technology will afford us.
Business internet traffic increases to Facebook and YouTube

15 April 2010 - More business internet traffic goes to Facebook than to any other internet site, according to analysis by managed security company, Network Box. Analysis of 13 billion URLs used by businesses in the first quarter of 2010 shows that 6.8 per cent of all business internet traffic goes to Facebook – an increase of one per cent since the last quarter of 2009.
Microsoft MS10-018 Out-of-Band Security Update

In response to highly publicised attacks reportedly exploiting a zero-day (without protection) vulnerability in the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser, Microsoft has released, out-of-band, security bulletin MS10-018 addressing nine privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed vulnerability in Internet Explorer.

Network Box for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

Version 3.1 of the Network Box iPhone App is now available on the iTunes App Store.
This is the Network Box App for our customers to access the Network Box Office customer portal from their iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. As well as introducing compatibility with Apple's v3.2 firmware (used in the new iPad), this new version also adds significant performance improvements.
Network Box launches S-Series UTM devices

A new range of unified threat management (UTM) devices designed for SMEs and branch offices, and supported by a full managed service, is launched today by managed security firm, Network Box. The S-Series range (S-35 and S-85) is available from 16 February 2010.
The S-35 is designed for smaller offices that require a VPN (to connect remote workers or branch offices to a central location), firewall, and intrusion prevention functionality; as well as full support and management services.
